Harare – The Zimbabwe Council Of Copyrights, ZICCO, has announced new registration requirements for artists seeking to become members and have their work protected.

In a public notice, ZICCO said the updated process is aimed at strengthening copyright protection, royalty collection and ownership verification for musicians, composers and other rights holders.

Applicants will be required to submit six key items. These include a copy of a national ID, valid passport or driver’s license, and a copy of the ID of their next of kin.

Artists must also provide two copies of their music on CD, DVD or any data storage device, with a clearly marked sleeve to prove ownership. In addition, ZICCO is now requesting a clearance certificate from the Censorship and Entertainment Control Board as part of the application pack.

Other requirements include a completed membership application form, which will be provided by ZICCO, and payment of the prescribed registration fee.

The organisation said the changes are part of efforts to streamline membership and ensure proper documentation of creative works in line with copyright law.

Artists and rights holders have been urged to visit ZICCO offices with all required documents. For more information, ZICCO can be contacted on Call/App: +263711371315-9.
