Super Size Me Africa Zimbabwe (SSMAZ), in partnership with Super Size Men Zimbabwe (SSMZ), will on Saturday, 19 September 2026, launch Zimbabwe’s first walkathon tour specifically designed for plus-size men and women at Hartfield Rugby Grounds in Bulawayo.
Founded in 2025 by Executive Director Alice Chinya, SSMAZ is a nationwide civic movement focused on redefining confidence, combating body discrimination and promoting mental health, physical wellness and social inclusion under the banner, “Made for Us, By Us! Plus-Size.”
Chinya said the historic event would provide a safe and empowering environment where plus-size people can participate in physical activity without fear of judgement, public shaming or unrealistic body expectations.
“The walkathon is designed to create a safe space for plus-size individuals to enjoy physical activity and embrace their bodies without judgement,” Chinya said.
She said although the walkathon was centred on the plus-size community, it was open to everyone, with allies, family members and supporters of body positivity encouraged to participate in solidarity.
According to Chinya, the 2026–2027 movement roadmap will begin with the Bulawayo launch before moving to Harare for a grand finale on 3 October 2026.
The programme will also feature the Kumadafu Festival on 19 December 2026, a year-end celebration aimed at honouring plus-size individuals for navigating 2026 while promoting social and economic inclusion, confidence and empowerment.
Another major event on the calendar is a plus-size fashion extravaganza scheduled for February 2027, which will showcase plus-size fashion while celebrating identity, confidence and self-expression.
SSMAZ is calling on corporate sponsors, development partners and local organisations to support its health, wellness and social inclusion initiatives.
