Deputy Mayor and the City of Harare Gender Champion Cllr Rosemary Muronda has declared an end to passive gender awareness.
She made the declaration at the 2 – day Female Mentors programme currently underway in Harare.
Addressing the female mentors, Deputy Mayor Cllr Muronda said the City must launch a comprehensive review of all municipal human resource protocols, operational manuals and administrative channels in an effort to ensure recruitment, promotion and talent identification systems are transparent, merit-driven and structurally equitable.
“We are enforcing a zero tolerance policy against all forms of gender-based violence, sexual harassment and intimidation,” she said.
The gender champion said all the “old boys’ networks” and informal gatekeeping mechanisms that isolate female officers must be permanently dismantled.
Deputy Mayor Muronda urged women to embrace leadership opportunities, support one another through mentorship and continue striving for excellence.
