Former Dynamos FC skipper Murape Murape has called the beleaguered club to be sold to capable individuals or be handed back to the community.
In a statement, Murape who was selected soccer star of the year in 2007 said it was sad to note that the side which is supposed to be a source of pride to its legion of funds, was now a sinking Titanic.
“On this Africa Day, I am compelled to speak out against the mismanagement and personalization that have plagued Dynamos FC, a cultural institution and pride of our nation, now facing relegation,” said Murape.
“Dynamos FC is more than just a team, it’s a symbol of our rich heritage, a beacon of identity and a cornerstone of our community.
Born from a spirit of unity, Dynamos was founded to bring together black Zimbabweans across divides, embodying the African spirit of Ubuntu, hence the nickname Team Yenyika, meaning “Team of the Nation”, love and humanity towards others.
“Its legacy is built on the sweat, tears and triumphs of countless individuals who have worn the Glamour Boys jersey with pride.
The club’s history is adorned with glorious moments, legendary players and unforgettable matches that have become an integral part of Zimbabwean sports achievements. Dynamos FC has been a source of joy, inspiration, and national pride for generations of former players and fans alike.”
Murape said there was need to find the root cause of the decay at the Glamour Boys.
” Getting rid of the Executive without addressing the root causes of the problems won’t solve anything, we need fundamental reforms and systemic change.
I urge those in control of Dynamos Private Limited to sell Dynamos Football Club to capable individuals or groups or return the club it to its rightful owners, the community of former players, administrators, and supporters. Vosara zvavo neCompany Yavo isu toenda mberi hedu ne Club yenyika.
“Let’s unite to save DeMbare and restore its glory, celebrating African unity and resilience.”
Some section of Dynamos fans are boycotting the club’s home league matches in protest over what they call leadership crisis. They are calling for the resignation of the Moses Maunganidze led executive which they accuse of leading the club to relegation following successive poor results in the Premier Soccer League.
