Visiting Mandizha Plaza FC continued their unbeaten run in the Division Two league after edging Bindura Municipality 1-0 in a tightly contested derby at Chipadze Stadium yesterday.
The visitors secured maximum points through a solitary strike from Clever Dhizara, who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a well-taken effort.
Bindura Municipality pushed hard for an equaliser after the break, but Mandizha Plaza FC held firm to protect their slender advantage until the final whistle.
Mandizha coach Spencer Madya was delighted with the result and his side’s continued unbeaten run.
“I am happy with the unbeaten run and the way the boys are responding. Winning away from home is always important. We now have to focus on the next match and hopefully maintain this run when we play at home,” Madya said.
Despite the defeat, Bindura Municipality coach Patrick Changamidzi felt his charges had matched their opponents for much of the contest.
“It was a balanced match. We created our chances, but unfortunately we were unlucky and that is why we lost,” Changamidzi said.
Mandizha Plaza FC chairman Tafadzwa Mandizha hailed the team’s performance, saying the victory demonstrated the progress they have made in their debut season.
“A massive three points for the boys. Well deserved too. The team is now showing the consistency that is required at this level to become a top team in Division Two,” Mandizha said.
“I think the team has done tremendously well, considering that this is our first season in the football league. The march towards Division One has surely begun.”
The victory keeps Mandizha Plaza FC’s unbeaten momentum intact as they continue their push for a strong Division Two campaign.
