The City of Harare has unveiled a newly refurbished basketball court in Kambuzuma 2 for the wellness and recreation of residents in the area.

Sponsored by a sports betting company, Premier Bet, the revamped facility is set to provide athletes and basketball fans a prime venue for competitive and social games.

Chipo Suka, the ward Councillor thanked the project sponsor for its corporate social investment.

“I extend our sincere gratitude to Premier Bet for their generous donation and commitment to the development of sport in our City.

“Your investment in this facility is more than a refurbishment – it is an investment in our youth, in our community and in the future of Harare,” Cllr Suka said.

In her speech, Cllr Suka highlighted the high value of sport in community development, saying, “Sport is not just a game but a tool for transformation.

“Sport teaches discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience – values that shape responsible citizens.”

She reaffirmed the City’s commitment to protect the refurbished facility.

“As the City of Harare, we commit to protecting and maintaining this facility.

We will work with the community to ensure it is used responsibly and inclusively,” she stated.

Premier Bet Retail Manager, Anne-Marie Nyambo, pledged her company’s continued support for social amenities that directly benefit society.

In his vote of thanks, Harare City Senior Community Services Officer, Mr Savison Machetu, urged Kambuzuma residents to have a sense of ownership for the refurbished basketball court and jealously guard it from any forms of vandalism.

Officials from the Sports and Recreation Commission, National Basketball Association, Civic organisations and local community leaders witnessed the basketball court handover ceremony.

Scores of attendants at the event were treated to scintillating performances by dancers and an exhibition match featuring local basketball teams.
