The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) has urged Zimbabweans to prioritise breast cancer awareness, early detection and support for affected individuals as the country joins the rest of the world in commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
In its awareness campaign, the consumer watchdog emphasised the importance of educating communities about breast cancer, encouraging early detection and supporting those affected by the disease to help save lives.
“Together, we can make a difference. Raise awareness. Encourage early detection. Support those affected. Save lives,” CCZ said in its Breast Cancer Awareness Month message.
The organisation highlighted the importance of knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, becoming familiar with changes in the breasts and seeking medical advice whenever unusual changes are noticed.
CCZ also encouraged people to attend recommended screening programmes and health checks, while offering support and encouragement to individuals affected by breast cancer.
Under its “Know. Check. Act.” campaign, the organisation stressed that early detection can make a significant difference in the fight against the disease.
“Awareness inspires action. Early detection can save lives,” CCZ said.
The campaign seeks to encourage individuals to take an active role in protecting their health by staying informed, paying attention to changes in their bodies and seeking professional medical assistance when necessary.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October, provides an opportunity for organisations, health professionals and communities to raise awareness about the disease, promote early diagnosis and encourage support for patients and survivors.
CCZ, which is marking its 70th anniversary, continues to advocate for consumer awareness and empowerment under its longstanding motto, “The voice of the consumer.”
