Harare-Hot and humid conditions are set to continue across much of Zimbabwe, with the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) forecasting isolated thundershowers in some areas from Sunday, 27 September, through Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
The MSD said on Sunday, 27 September, scattered clouds drifting from Botswana brought humid and hot conditions to western parts of the country, with evening thundershowers recorded in parts of Matabeleland South, particularly Bulilima and Mangwe districts.
Most other areas remained sunny and hot during the day before becoming mild towards evening.
The weather department urged the public to exercise caution during thunderstorms, warning against seeking shelter under trees or near tall objects.
“When thunder roars, it is best to be indoors. It is safer to be inside an earthed building during a thunderstorm,” the MSD warned.
The public was also advised to stay away from water bodies and avoid travelling in open trucks or tractors during storms, while livestock should be moved to safe areas away from rivers and dams.
For Monday, 28 September, Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South and Masvingo are expected to experience briefly cloudy, humid and hot conditions, with isolated thundershowers possible.
Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland and all Mashonaland provinces are expected to have mostly clear and mild conditions in the morning, becoming hot around midday before turning partly cloudy and mild towards evening.
The MSD advised people in these areas to limit exposure to direct sunlight by wearing hats and using umbrellas or shade.
On Tuesday, 29 September, Matabeleland South, southern parts of Midlands, Manicaland and Masvingo are expected to become windy and mild, with rain and drizzle possible in places.
Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Harare Metropolitan, northern Midlands and all Mashonaland provinces are expected to experience brief cloudy periods and isolated thundershowers, becoming windy and mild towards evening.
The MSD has separately warned that a broader spell of rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is expected to develop from Tuesday, 29 September, through Thursday, 1 October, with conditions spreading across the country.
The public has been urged to remain alert to changing weather conditions, avoid exposed areas during thunderstorms and follow safety guidance issued by the MSD and Civil Protection authorities.
