HARARE — Police have issued a stern warning to members of the public to be cautious of unsolicited job offers on social media, after a 27-year-old woman was allegedly robbed and gang raped in Kuwadzana.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the incident occurred on September 14, 2026, involving a woman from Gokwe who had been lured to Harare through a job offer posted in a WhatsApp group.
According to police, the woman travelled to the capital after being promised employment by strangers. Upon arrival, she was instructed to proceed to Kuwadzana, where she was allegedly attacked by three men who robbed her of her valuables and gang raped her.
In a statement, the ZRP urged the public to exercise extreme caution when responding to unsolicited job offers or engaging with strangers on social media platforms.
Police advised job seekers to verify the identities and credentials of individuals or organisations offering employment or other services before making any travel arrangements or meeting in person.
“The ZRP urges members of the public to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited job offers or engaging with strangers on social media and to verify the identities and credentials of individuals offering employment or other services,” police said.
The ZRP said comprehensive investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the three suspects.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing trend of criminals using fake job adverts on WhatsApp, Facebook and other platforms to lure unsuspecting victims, particularly young women seeking employment.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to report at their nearest police station.
