Residents of Chitungwiza have been urged to take advantage of 30 percent discount promotion put in place by the local authority by paying for council services to improve service delivery. The promotion ends end of this month.

Speaking during a feedback meeting held in ward 5 on Saturday in St Mary’s Chitungwiza mayor, Cllr Rosaria Mangoma said:

“We have an ongoing 30% discount promotion. If residents pay their rates this month, council will be able to improve services. Revenue collection helps council procure modern refuse compactors and improve service delivery,” said Cllr Mangoma.

The Chitungwiza Municipality is running a 30% discount promotion on outstanding municipal bills and arrears. Due to popular demand, the council has granted a final extension, and the promotion will officially end on May 30, 2026. After this date, unpaid balances will revert to their original amounts.

Ward 5 Councillor Watmore Muchairi said the ward currently has no major sewer challenges as bursts are attended to promptly.

He also highlighted improved water supply following the installation of a new water pipe.

“There are no major sewer challenges in this ward. Whenever there is a burst, it is attended to on the same day,” he said.

“This ward is very organised and has residents who believe in constructive discussions and development.”

Residents raised concerns over collection refuse bags, non-functional tower lights, noise pollution, and drug and substance abuse.

Council authorities said processes to address the concerns raised were already underway.

The Municipality is set to establish a day care drug rehabilitation centre at Utano in Zengeza 4, while a 24-hour rehabilitation centre is earmarked for Tatenda Tavern in Unit H.

On sewer infrastructure, council is implementing rehabilitation projects that include laying new pipes along the Zengeza Outfall. The project is expected to benefit more than 23 000 households once completed.

Councillor Muchairi also informed residents that Chitungwiza Municipality is now ranked number 14 out of 92 local authorities in Zimbabwe in terms of service delivery, reflecting positive progress.
