National Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe President, Kurebwa Javangwe Nhomboka said the Union is coming up with a new strategy to raise grievances at work places where women spouses of mine workers would picket work station.

Addressing workers at May Day commemorations held at Turf,in Mhondoro Ngezi, Nhomboka said the strategy will be done after realizing that the current labour laws in the country restrict workers from going on industrial action.

“We are urging women spouses to organize themselves and picket at work places of their husbands and boldly air out their grievances. We did similar intiative at Hwange where we mobilized women and children. The community there knows and respect NMWUZ, they know me , President Nhomboka,” he said.

Nhomboka paid gratitude to the law makers in parliament for crafting laws that favour labour policies.

“Let me pay gratitude to Hon Mutsa Murombedzi , Mashonaland West Proportional representation MP for standing by us as workers. You remember there was a time when Zimplats used to deduct forex from employees and remit local currency to Mining Industry Pension Fund. She assisted us for that policy to be reversed.I would also like to thank Deputy Minister of Finance, Kudakwashe Mnangagwa for assisting us in that matter,”said Nhomboka.

He added:
” I am urging workers to take May Day seriously as it is a special occasion were we invite members of the August House and they hear our grievances and take them to parliament.”
The fun filled event was attended by over 500 workers who also included women and children from the local community.
