By Wallace Mawire

The State of Palestine has strongly condemned the provocative storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and groups of extremist settlers, carried out under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces. The state said the action is a flagrant violation of international law and a direct assault on the historical and legal status quo of the holy site.

The State of Palestine said the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound is not an isolated incident, but the latest in a series of deliberate provocations of the feelings of Muslims and Christians around the world by Israel, which have escalated tensions in the region to a breaking point.

The Ambassador of Palestine Dr Tamer Almassri has reiterated that the systematic provocations, including attacks on Christians and recent calls for annexation, have served to exacerbate the already volatile situation, pushing the region to the brink of a regional war.

He said the ongoing Israeli bombardment and starvation in Gaza, which has lasted for over 660 days, has resulted in the senseless slaughter of 28 children per day. The Ambassador said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is nothing short of catastrophic, with over 60,000 Palestinians having been killed and 12,000 more buried under the rubble. He said the international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the atrocities, and it is imperative that urgent action is taken to bring an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The State of Palestine gas called upon the international community to condemn the actions in the strongest possible terms and to take concrete steps to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law. He added that the continued silence and inaction of the international community in the face of the atrocities have emboldened Israel to continue its aggression, and it is imperative that the complicity is brought to an end.
