The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe (ELCZ) Central Diocese has set an ambitious evangelism drive targeting to grow its membership from 150 000 to 500 000 in the next five years.
ELCZ Central Diocese Assembly chairperson Advocate Brian Dube said the church should expand to all corners across the country, adding that parishes must increase visibility and start cell group outreach programmes.
“Our population as Midlands province is 1 811 905 and we have a target as the Central Diocese to spread the gospel and increase our membership to about 500 000 from the current just over 150 000 in the next five years,”Advocate Dube said.
“What this means is that our parishes must increase visibility, evangelism and outreach.
“For simplicity, we must design fliers and other easy to read materials for that programme. We must start having cell-group outreaches in all newly established settlements and also all neighbourhoods.”
Advocate Dube added: “ELCZ is not for Mberengwa, Gwanda and Beitbridge and their town migrants. It’s for everyone.”
Meanwhile Gweru East Zvapupu organ has identified five Mnene Primary School visually impaired children who need humanitarian help.
Advocate Dube called on the men’s fellowship group to donate groceries for the visually impaired school children .
Besides preaching the gospel ELCZ is well known for humanitarian and social programmes as well as reaching out to the needy in society.
