HARARE — A major upgrade at one of Harare’s busiest road junctions is underway, with Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Hon. Adv. F.T. Mhona inspecting progress at the Cloverleaf Interchange where Harare Drive meets Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Road.

The project targets the Airport Road corridor, a key route for travelers heading to R.G. Mugabe International Airport. Officials say the interchange will reduce bottlenecks, shorten journey times, and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.

During the tour, Mhona called the development a long-overdue step forward for the capital’s road network. He credited President Dr E.D. Mnangagwa for pushing infrastructure upgrades nationwide and said the work aligns with government’s goal of building modern, reliable transport links.

“The focus is on delivering roads that work for people and support economic activity,” Mhona told reporters. He added that the Ministry is committed to ensuring the project meets quality standards and delivers value to the public.

According to the Ministry, the interchange will also enable the construction of 10 more interchanges along the Glenara stretch and related routes, which should further ease congestion across Harare.

Mhona was joined on site by Permanent Secretary Eng. J.P. Makumbe, heads of state enterprises, and senior officials from the Ministry.

The interchange is being delivered under the government’s “Kilometer by Kilometer” infrastructure drive.
