In a demonstration of inter-institutional cooperation, the Upper Manyame Sub-Catchment Council donated 40 pole litter bins to the Harare City Council today. Acting Mayor Cllr Womberaiishe Nhende received the bins on behalf of the city at Town House.
Cllr Nhende commended Upper Manyame for their timely assistance, acknowledging that Harare is currently facing challenges in managing waste due to its large and growing population.
He encouraged the corporate world to emulate Upper Manyame’s gesture, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility in addressing the city’s waste management challenges.
The Acting Mayor also praised the delegation from Upper Manyame, led by board member Ms. Progress Tumbo, Acting CEO Mrs. Constance Matsaira and Ivy Chibanda who heads the Public Relations team.
“It’s beginning to show that women leadership can easily deliver,” he said.
Mrs. Matsaira emphasized that the donation was not merely a provision of equipment but a demonstration of their commitment to environmental management.
“It is a tangible expression of our commitment to environmental stewardship and inter-institutional cooperation,” she said.
As a statutory water management body established under the Water Act of 1998, Upper Manyame Sub-Catchment Council plays a crucial role in water planning and management upstream of the Manyame River.
Similarly, the Harare City Council is responsible for planning and management within the city. The donation of pole litter bins underscores the importance of collaboration between institutions in addressing environmental sustainability and community development.
Cllr Nhende expressed his gratitude for the donation, stating that it would go a long way in helping the city address its waste management challenges.
“It’s proving that the development of this great city lies in these cooperations and partnerships,” he said.
