MHONDORO-MUBAIRA -Kuwadzana East legislator, Hon Charlton Hwende has commended Mhondoro-Mubaira MP,Hon Chamu Chiwanza for championing the rehabilitation of the Mhondoro-Mubaira road, which is now underway.
Hon, Hwende said he saw the ongoing works over the weekend while at his rural home.
“Yesterday I was kumusha ku Mhondoro. I went to buy building materials pa Mubaira. My driver had been telling me that the road we were making noise about in Parliament, myself, Hon Mutsa Murombedzi and the current MP Hon Chamu Chiwanza, was being fixed,” Hwende wrote in a post directed to Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Hon Felix Mhona.
He said while the road is still gravel, grading and rehabilitation are a major relief for communities that rely on it to access Mubaira and surrounding services.
Chiwanza’s Road Push
Hon Hwende specifically credited Chiwanza for persistently lobbying government in Parliament and on other platforms for the road to be attended to.
According to recent updates from the constituency, road rehabilitation has already started in Ward 4 and will be extended across all wards as part of a constituency-wide programme.
Hon Chiwanza has made road reconstruction his top priority, pledging to fix roads damaged by last year’s heavy rains that left several rural routes impassable.
During his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) consultative tour across Mhondoro-Mubaira in January, residents listed roads, clinics and schools as urgent priorities. Hon Chiwanza assured residents that the Harare-Mubaira Road had been included in the national budget for attention.
Residents have for years complained that the Mhondoro-Mubaira road becomes almost impassable in the rainy season, inflating transport costs and hurting local business.
Hon, Hwende said such development issues must transcend politics.
“As a responsible opposition MP, in the same manner that I made noise about the state of the road, I must also appreciate the work done by government through Minister Mhona for listening to fellow MPs and delivering,” he said.
“Even though it is still gravel, we must still appreciate it and say thank you.”
He added light-heartedly that he, Mhona and Chiwanza share the same totem: “We are ALL MHOFU,” accompanied by pictures of the road under rehabilitation.
