Masvingo, Zimbabwe — Women Empowering Sustainable Environments (WESE) joined Masvingo Urban Member of Parliament, Hon. Martin Mureri, in a community food distribution initiative that saw hundreds of women and people living with disabilities benefit from rice in Ward 7, Masvingo Urban.
WESE applauded Hon. Martin Mureri for supporting vulnerable members of the community and for ensuring that the distribution was conducted without political bias or discrimination based on political affiliation.
The initiative focused on women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable community members who continue to face economic hardships and challenges in accessing basic necessities. Beneficiaries welcomed the support, describing it as a meaningful gesture at a time when many households are struggling with the rising cost of living.
WESE commended Hon. Mureri for demonstrating an inclusive approach to community support, particularly by prioritising groups that often face additional barriers in accessing resources and opportunities.
Residents of Ward 7 also expressed their appreciation, noting that food assistance should be based on need and vulnerability rather than political affiliation. They said the initiative provided an important example of how community leaders can contribute to improving the welfare and dignity of vulnerable people.
WESE further emphasised that humanitarian and social assistance should always be delivered transparently, fairly and inclusively, ensuring that no one is excluded because of their political views or affiliation.
The organisation thanked Hon. Martin Mureri for the gesture and for standing with women and people living with disabilities. WESE encouraged continued collaboration between elected representatives, civil society organisations and communities to ensure that vulnerable people receive the support they need.
For the hundreds of beneficiaries who received rice, the initiative was more than a food distribution it was a demonstration that community welfare can come before political differences.
