The Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund Golf Tournament hosted by Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Manicaland Province raised close to US$30 000 to support widows, widowers, orphans of officers and vulnerable members of the community.
The tournament was held at Hillside Sports Club in Mutare on Saturday and brought together golfers, business leaders and well-wishers who supported the initiative through participation, donations and pledges.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Advocate Misheck Mugadza, said the event supported the ZPCS Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund, which assists orphans, widows, widowers and persons with disabilities across the country.
“This tournament supports the ZPCS Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund, which assists orphans, widows, widowers, and persons with disabilities across the country. This work reflects our national mantra of ‘Leaving No One and No Place Behind’ as championed by His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa,” said Hon. Advocate Mugadza.
He pledged US$1 000 towards the fund and said corporate social responsibility was an investment in social capital.
“By supporting the Goodwill Trust, you are investing in a stable, compassionate, and dignified society – the very environment in which business thrives,” he said.
Representing Commissioner-General Dr Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu, Deputy Commissioner-General Shepherd Mpofu, who is responsible for Operations, said the support from sponsors and partners had transformed the tournament into an act of service to humanity.
“Your support has turned this tournament into more than a sporting event – it has become an act of service to humanity. The Fund is a beacon of hope for orphans, widows, and widowers, not only of correctional officers who gave their lives in service to the nation, but also for the community at large,” said DCG Mpofu.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs Rufaro Nyabango said the assistance would help families meet educational, food and medical needs.
“Losing a loved one left us with many challenges, but you have reminded us that we are not forgotten. The amount we are receiving from the Goodwill Trust Fund shall go a long way in paying school fees, buying groceries, and meeting medical needs for my children,” she said.
The tournament was officially opened by Manicaland Province Officer Commanding, Commissioner Spetosomusa Chinobva in the presence of Comm-Gen Chihobvu, who also participated in the golf tournament.
Emmanuel Chitambira won the men’s first prize with 40 points, while Tatenda Mukombe claimed the ladies’ first prize with 34 points.
Manicaland Province Sports Officer, Chief Correctional Officer Cousinet Simunyu, thanked organisations and individuals who supported the event.
Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Pedzisayi “Scott” Sakupwanya, who is also the 2026 Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Mining, Sports and Economic Empowerment Award winner, was represented by his brother, Mr Jeremiah Sakupwanya.
FBC Bank was the platinum sponsor, while Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company was the silver sponsor.
