National Chairman of the Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (CZLWVA), Phineas Makombe has said the association fully support Constitutional Amendment Bill No.3 (CAB3) and President Emmerson Mnangagwa to advance the national economic trajectory without the divisive and poisonous national presidential elections that have for years torn the country apart.
CAB3 proposes extending presidential terms from five to seven years and allows Parliament to elect the President and give him the mandate to lead until 2030.
“As CZLWVA, being children of War Veterans we are very fully behind CAB3 and we are very much excited that the people have spoken in support of the bill,”Makombe said.
“As you are aware l am also the Secretary for Legal Affairs of the party youth league and we are the vanguard of the party and we are going to stand with our President.
“We are actually impressed with the works President Mnangagwa has actually overdone since assuming office and this should go uninterrupted.
“Even people who do not subscribe to our party said look, we want to join the party but although we are not in the party now, we fully support the bill because we believe in the unifying and visionary leadership of his Excellency President Mnangagwa, in changing the economic fortunes of this country.”
Makombe added: “The issue of elections cause disharmony and disunity and so for us to have seven years extension with no elections, we can focus on national economic development and unity and as youths we are very excited that his Excellency should get to 2030.”
