Chitungwiza Municipality has called on residents, vehicle owners and people keeping vehicles at overnight parking facilities to urgently remove disused vehicles and scrap metal from unauthorised areas across the town.
In a public notice, the council said the abandoned vehicles and scrap metal must be cleared from parking areas, business premises, public transport stops and open spaces to improve cleanliness, safety and order in the town.
The local authority warned that derelict vehicles and scrap metal were not only damaging the appearance of neighbourhoods but could also provide hiding places for criminals and be used as sites for drug-related activities and other illegal operations.
“The vehicles and these items spoil and damage the appearance of our areas, and they can provide criminals with hiding places, be used for drug-related activities or other illegal operations,” the council said.
The council urged residents and vehicle owners to cooperate with the local authority in maintaining a clean, safe and orderly Chitungwiza.
“Let us work together to ensure that Chitungwiza remains a clean, safe and well-organised town,” the notice said.
The municipality emphasised that maintaining a clean and orderly Chitungwiza was a collective responsibility, urging the public to play their part in keeping the town’s public spaces and business areas free of abandoned vehicles and scrap metal.
