The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has honoured Wanezi High School and Senondo Primary School for excellence in education through the prestigious Secretary’s Merit Awards.
The awards ceremony, held at Wanezi High School in Insiza District, Matabeleland South Province, was officiated by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr Moses Mhike, and attended by the Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South, Mrs L. Dhlamini-Maseko.
Mr Mhike commended the two schools for their outstanding performance, innovation, effective leadership and commitment to improving learning outcomes.
“Senondo Primary School and Wanezi High School have demonstrated excellence through innovation, effective leadership and a commitment to improving learning outcomes,” said Mr Mhike.
At Senondo Primary School, initiatives such as the Reading Clinic and school enterprises have helped respond to pupils’ learning needs while also providing opportunities for practical skills development.
“The Reading Clinic and school enterprises demonstrate how education can respond to the needs of learners while equipping them with practical skills,” Mr Mhike said.
Wanezi High School was recognised for its strong academic performance, technical and vocational pathways, school enterprises and skills development initiatives.
Mr Mhike said the achievements of the two schools demonstrated the importance of combining academic excellence with practical skills and innovative approaches to education.
The Secretary’s Merit Awards are intended to recognise and encourage excellence, innovation and effective practices across the education sector.
The recognition of Senondo Primary School and Wanezi High School highlights the contribution of schools that continue to develop innovative programmes aimed at improving learning outcomes and preparing learners with relevant skills for the future.
