HARARE – Mutapa Gold Resources has mobilised US$100,000 for healthcare, leveraging strategic partners and contractors to fund upgrades at three hospitals serving communities around its mining operations.

Proceeds from the company’s inaugural Charity Golf Day will be shared equally among Loretto Mission Hospital in the Midlands, Shamva Hospital and Bindura Hospital in Mashonaland Central.

The mining firm said the intervention is designed to strengthen healthcare access in host communities while complementing its broader multi-million-dollar corporate social responsibility programme.

Speaking on the initiative, Mutapa Gold said the golf tournament brought together business leaders, government stakeholders and industry partners to raise capital for critical health infrastructure in areas directly impacted by its operations.

“This is more than charity. It is about investing in the social licence to operate and improving outcomes for the communities that power our business,” the company noted.

The US$100,000 disbursement comes as mining companies face increased pressure to align CSR spend with tangible community impact under the National Development Strategy 2.

Healthcare, roads and education remain priority areas for mining houses operating in Zimbabwe’s mineral-rich provinces.

For Mutapa Gold, the hospitals targeted serve high-density catchment areas linked to its gold mining footprint. Loretto Mission covers rural communities in the Midlands, while Shamva and Bindura hospitals are key referral centres in Mashonaland Central.

Industry analysts say such targeted CSR funding helps de-risk operations, improves workforce wellness, and builds goodwill with government and local authorities.

The inaugural golf day is expected to become an annual fixture on Mutapa Gold’s calendar as the company scales its community investment portfolio alongside production targets.
