Police have revealed what happened in the road accident that killed six Highlanders fans near Filabusi on Sunday night.

The crash happened in the Amazon area, about 15km from Filabusi. The fans were returning from Bulawayo, where they had watched their team beat Herentals 2-0 in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The Bosso supporters were in a Nissan NV350 kombi. It crashed into a broken-down Howo tipper truck that had no occupants and was parked on the road.

After that, a Honda Fit carrying three passengers, which was following closely behind, crashed into the back of the kombi.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 197-kilometre peg along the Masvingo–Mbalabala Road on 23/08/26 at around 1915 hours,” the ZRP said.

“A motorist driving a Nissan NV350 vehicle which was carrying five passengers towards Filabusi allegedly crashed into a broken-down Howo tipper truck, which had no occupants and was stationary on the road.

“Subsequently, a Honda Fit carrying three passengers, which was following closely, crashed into the rear of the Nissan NV350.

“All six occupants who were travelling in the Nissan NV350 died on the spot, while the three occupants of the Honda Fit sustained serious injuries.

“The bodies of the victims were conveyed to Filabusi District Hospital for post-mortem examinations.”
