As the cold weather went on an overdrive at around 5pm in Epworth North , no one could stand between Hon. mhetu and his three Councillors for Ward 1,6 and 7. They ware all there to give their ward feedbacks and riding on the platform provided by their Honourable Member of Parliament,Hon. Zivai Mhetu.
It would be amiss not to mention that in other constituencies Councillors tend to fight against their MP ,not because he is not good but because they think Parliament pays and has more respect than being a Councillor.
But Hon. Mhetu has mastered the game in its different shapes and sizes. It’s not a walk in the Park to unite ‘your people’ and yet in Epworth North there is something that shines brighter in the world of Epworth North. People and their leadership are united to the core.
On the 15th of August , Saturday, Hon. Mhetu walked and travelled the breath and length of Epworth North alongside his Councillors. But one stood against the rest. He was able to ride on the presence of his MP to give an updated feedback on what the Epworth Local Board has been up to through use of ratepayers’ funds. Here transparency and accountability matters.
Councillor Chamunorwa Andrew Tembo of ward 7 of Epworth North gave a list of developments taking place at local board level.
In the presence of his MP ,he did not show any jittery but to the surprise of many ,he made the job at hand easier for conclusional responses by his MP . Hon. Mhetu who had a seven(7) point development initiative for his constituency.
Clr Tembo put this into perspective as a Clr and gave all the confidence to Hon. Mhetu that all he needed when he asked the Epworth North citizens. “Muchiri kundida here?( Do you still want me to be your representative?. And all without any imagination of doubt shouted ‘ Gara ipapo kusvika 2030( Be there till your term ends in 2030).
Clr Tembo laid out the challenges that had bedevilled the residents in Epworth and eventually gave his nuanced feedback.
“Two vehicles for the housing department have been procured in order to fast track the pegging and residential stands allocation backlog”.
“A skip bin truck has also been procured and will be delivered in two weeks time”, Clr Tembo narrated.
He went on the inform residents that two ambulances had been purchased to deal with emergency health matters including expecting mothers.
Epworth North and the broader Epworth is known for veld fires and Clr Tembo did not mince his words in a celebratory mood.
” We now have a fire brigade vehicle and our would be fire fighters will be graduating by end of this week”, said Tembo
It was the final developement that Clr Tembo mentioned that even his master and MP gave him a pat on the back. Why? Because in his address Honourable Mhetu in Ward 1 and 6 had categorically and previously mentioned the pain suffered by expecting mothers when they are about to give birth.
“A theatre is being built in Epworth. You won’t travel long distances to get emergency maternity solutions. Epworth North leads and others follow”, Clr Tembo’s parting words.
When there is gloom and darkness, there is always a silver lining that stands yonder.
Hon. Mhetu and his Councillors gave it all and with packs of rices in their hands, residents walked home knowing their constituency and wards are in good hands.
