She Was 19 When a Crocodile Changed Everything
Privilege Maphosa was 19, when attacked by a crocodile when fetching water in a river in Mberengwa. She lost her right leg above the knee in one moment.
But Privilege refused to die. With help from a Germany organization, we fitted her with an artificial leg. Today she has a daughter and a smile that lights up Mberengwa.
Only one problem remains: How will she help her husband and earn her own living?
Privilege’s answer is now our answer for hundreds of people with disabilities. We call it the 3-Duck Circle.
The Problem We See Every Day
At Health Promotion Clinic Trust in Eastlea, Harare, we fit prosthetics and do therapy. But therapy doesn’t buy mealie-meal. It doesn’t pay school fees.
Stroke survivors ask: “Who will feed me tomorrow?”
Amputees ask: “Do I still have purpose?”
Mothers with cerebral palsy children ask: “What happens when I’m gone?”
We treat the body. But the stomach and the spirit were still hungry.
The Solution: 3 Ducks, Endless Circles
The 3-Duck Circle is Community Based Rehabilitation you can see and eat.
Step 1: Give 3 ducks
1 drake + 2 female ducks + coop materials = $50 for one person with disability. 3 ducks @ $10 each = $30 + coop materials = $20. Community provides labor to build.
Step 2: Care + Multiply
Ducks survive Zimbabwe’s heat. They eat waste. They lay eggs fast. The person and family build a coop, feed them daily, collect eggs.
Step 3: Pass It Forward
When the flock grows, that person gives 3 ducks to the next person with disability waiting. Then that person does the same.
1 person → 3 ducks → Another person → 3 ducks → Another person
One $50 gift never stops. That’s why it’s a Circle, not a project.
Why Ducks Are Therapy
1. Physical strength: Carrying water, cleaning coop builds arms for stroke survivors
2. Balance: Walking to the coop helps amputees like Privilege and Lorraine
3. Daily purpose: Routine stops depression. People say “I am a farmer” not “I am disabled”
4. Food + income: Eggs feed the family. Extra sales pay rent and clinic transport
Faces of the Circle: People Waiting for Their 3 Ducks
These are real people we have assisted. They survived. Now they’re ready to work:
Privilege Maphosa – Mberengwa
Crocodile attack at 19, right leg amputated. Prosthetic leg from HPCT + Germany help. Married with daughter. Strong, but needs income. Ducks can give her independence.
Chipo – Karoi
Single mother. Got prosthetic leg from us. Works hard daily, but needs her own project. Ducks can feed her child.
Lorraine Maorera Mangura
Crocodile attack in Form 3 while crossing Mwenezi River. Lost right leg above knee. School helped with first prosthesis. Lions Club of Harare City gave new limb after 5 years. Now an ECD teacher in training. Ducks can help her family while she teaches children.
Margaret Chinogurei – Chitungwiza
Brain tumor survivor. Widow raising one daughter. They own a house but have no income. A duck starter pack can change their story.
Pastor – Epworth
Lost his leg but kept his faith. Already running a small duck project. He inspired the 3-Duck Circle. Needs turkeys to add. HPCT already bought him a starter pack.
Mai Churumhanzu – Harare
Stroke survivor. Welcomed the duck project with tears. “I am ready,” she said. Waiting for her turn.
Chiendambuya Survivor – Manicaland
Stroke survivor who once said “I wish I could die”. Now our priority. 3 ducks can give her reason to wake up.
Hand Amputees – Mashonaland Central
Lost hands to landmine explosions in their fields. Ducks need care, not hands. Perfect for them.
Hyena Attack Survivor – Zaka
Lost both hands to hyena attack. We fitted bilateral artificial hands. She had twins at that time. Now she needs income to raise them. Priority for the Circle.
Mathwe Date – Madziva, Nyarukunda Turnoff
Mathwe lost his leg and his hope. Through donor support, he was recently fitted with an artificial leg. He is now very happy to walk again and says he will join the Circle to support his family. 3 ducks can give Mathwe a start, income, and purpose as he walks again.
Different injuries. Different towns. Same hope: 3 ducks to start again.
Partners We Need to Keep the Circle Strong
The 3-Duck Circle starts with $50. But it grows with community.
1. Profeed: Your pellets keep ducks healthy. Your brand keeps people with disabilities working. Let’s feed hope together.
2. Stock feed companies: Monthly donation of duck/grower pellets keeps flocks healthy. Your brand feeds dignity.
3. Sadza houses & food outlets in Harare: Ducks love cooked sadza leftovers, vegetables, safe food waste. One bucket = 2 days of feed for 3 ducks. Less waste, more eggs.
4. Builders & hardware shops: Nails, wire, roofing sheets for coops. Community provides labor, you provide materials.
5. Vets + Agritex: Monthly training + deworming tips for our duck farmers with disabilities.
When business joins the Circle, everyone eats. You feed ducks. Ducks feed families. Families feed hope.
The Vision for Zimbabwe
100 people start with 3 ducks. In 6 months, 100 more people receive ducks. In 1 year, 300+ families eat eggs and earn income.
No donor can feed everyone forever. But 3 ducks can multiply forever. Privilege can be the first in Mberengwa. Then she passes ducks to her neighbor.
How You Can Start a Circle Today
We call churches, companies, CBR Africa Network members, Ministry of Health, and good people to sponsor.
$50 sponsors 1 full starter pack: 3 ducks + coop materials + training. Community builds the coop. Partners like Profeed provide feed and sadza shops provide leftovers. One $50 donation starts a circle that never ends.

Bigboy Madzivanzira survived a stroke 15 years ago. Today he’s Country Rep for CBR Africa Network and founder of Health Promotion Clinic Trust. His “3-Duck Circle” gives 3 ducks to a person with disability. They care for them, then pass 3 ducks forward. $50 sponsors one starter pack. Therapy you can eat. Dignity you can feel. Real people like Privilege from Mberengwa and Mathwe from Madziva are waiting. Profeed is invited as feed partner. Contact: 0773367913
