One hundred young women from Hopley suburb in Harare, received leadership training at the local Tariro Clinic, boosting their confidence and voice.
Under this training the girls were taught to speak up, assert their rights and be change makers in their respective communities.
Under discussion on the training programme were also early marriages and Gender Based Violence (GBV) issues.
Said Action Aid in a statement:
“Young women and girls in Hopley face challenges like limited education, early marriages, and GBV. The ActionAid Zimbabwe Girl Supporter project, with support from ActionAid Sweden is tackling these issues head-on.
“As a powerful complement, every young woman and girl received a dignity kit, which comprises of a bucket, towel, bathing soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitary pads, undergarment, and washing soap. These kits support their menstrual hygiene needs by reducing period poverty and normalising menstruation as a healthy natural process.”
Action Aid Zimbabwe said it will continue support the advancement of the girl child.
“ActionAid Zimbabwe remains dedicated towards advancing the rights of young women and girls through girl-friendly safe spaces.
By combining leadership development with dignity support, we continue to help girls build agency, lead with confidence and move forward with safety, healthy and hope.”
