The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Harare Metropolitan Province  yesterday conducted a fire safety training session for officers at Chikurubi Maximum Prison to strengthen emergency preparedness in correctional facilities.

The training aimed to equip officers with knowledge and practical skills to prevent and respond to fire outbreaks in the workplace.

Facilitating the session, Mr Rodwick Mazuvamana of the Harare City Council Fire Brigade outlined fundamentals of fire science, including the fire triangle and methods of extinguishing fires such as cooling, smothering and starvation.

He stressed the need for early detection, correct use of firefighting equipment and adherence to safety procedures to protect life and property.

Principal Correctional Officer Clever Shingirai Maedze, a training officer within ZPCS, said fire safety awareness among officers is key to maintaining secure and well-managed institutions.

He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained at their respective stations to improve emergency preparedness.

Officers who attended commended ZPCS management for continuing staff training and development to support the modernisation of correctional facilities.
