The World Stroke Organisation (WSO) is hosting a lecture on April 24, focusing on Assistive Technology for Stroke Survivors: Life After Stroke.

In Zimbabwe, stroke is a significant health concern, with alarming statistics revealing an annual incidence rate of up to 316 per 100,000, a prevalence of up to 1,460 per 100,000, and a staggering 3-year mortality rate exceeding 80%.

Key Statistics:

– Incidence Rate: Up to 316 per 100,000 people per year

– Prevalence: Up to 1,460 per 100,000 people

– 3-Year Mortality Rate: Greater than 80%

– Deaths: 5,126 deaths in 2020, accounting for 4.73% of total deaths

– Age-Adjusted Death Rate: 93.42 per 100,000 population, ranking Zimbabwe #80 globally

 

Assistive technology plays a crucial role in helping stroke survivors regain independence. Innovations like AI-powered communication devices, wearable sensors, and virtual reality-based rehabilitation are transforming stroke care.

“The 24 April lecture will be a very important one to Health Promotion Clinic Trust CBR Programme as we are dealing daily with Stroke Survivors. Assistive Technology will be a way forward in improving quality of life for Stroke Survivors,” said Bigboy Madzivanzira, Founder and Director of Health Promotion Clinic Trust and a stroke survivor himself 🙏.
