Fellow Zimbabweans, esteemed guests,

Today, we gather to address a defining chapter in our nation’s journey – the land, a cornerstone of our liberation struggle. The fight for land rights, majority rule, and self-determination shaped our war against colonialism. As we continue to build our democracy, Amendment Bill No. 3 emerges as a pivotal step forward.

This bill does not undermine our hard-won freedoms; it strengthens them. Like Germany, China, India, Angola, Botswana, South Africa, and even the United States – nations we admire – we recognize that democracy is not just about direct votes but also effective representation and lasting stability.

Land was central to our liberation, and today, we discuss how to govern ourselves effectively. Amendment Bill No. 3 aligns us with global democratic practices, ensuring our governance reflects the will of the people through elected representatives.

We note with concern that opposing forces seem driven by a singular quest: political relevance. They resurface to oppose ZANU PF at every turn, lacking substantive arguments or facts. Their opposition is not about bettering Zimbabwe; it is about being seen.

Let us rise above petty politics. Let us move forward, upholding the spirit of our liberation struggle and embracing democracy in a way that secures our nation’s future.
