Woodlands suburb new sewer line

Gweru based land developer River Valley Group of Companies has upgraded the main sewer line in Woodlands suburb to meet growing demand of the residential area’s growth as well as fix recurring bursts and sewer blockages.
River Valley chief executive Smelly Dube said the new 400mm pipeline would easy pressure on the old system and improve waste disposal.
“The project is 80% complete and after test runs on leakages, we expect the new system to be operational by next week,”Dube said on the sidelines of a national clean up exercise in the suburb.
“The system has been expanded with new 400mm pipeline to replace the old 250mm line. The new pipeline has increased sewer carrying capacity, reduce bursts and blockages.
“We are happy that test runs we have carried on the new line have shown positive results.”
Dube said the company drilled a solar powered borehole in Woodlands and installed a flushing system to enable frequent sewer flushing when residents experience water rationing.
“The uninterrupted water supply from the borehole will help maintain constant water supply in the sewer line and reduce the build up of waste in the pipes,”she said.
“As a property developer we also urge our residents to desist from disposing objects, diapers and other solid waste material in sewer manholes and toilets.
“We have also engaged with Gweru City Council so that they descend on residents who still use the bucket system in some parts of the suburb.”
The company’s enginner Adonai Torerai said the new pipeline covers a distance of 300 metres and was laid at improved gradient to improve the flow of sewer.
“This is part of our efforts to maintain sewer infrastructure and ensure public health as well as proper waste disposal,”he said.
