The City of Harare will reopen its public swimming pools on 21 August 2026, with the official launch set for Les Brown Swimming Pool as the City prepares for the summer recreational season.
Chief Swimming Pool Superintendent Flora Chakanetsa said the reopening will restore operations at the 13 public swimming pools across the city, which run for nine months each year following winter maintenance and repairs breaks.
She invited residents to attend the launch and use the facilities during the swimming season.
“Peak activity is in September and October when temperatures are highest, and we receive the most visitors,” she said.
The swimming pools operate from 10:00am to 6:00pm on weekdays and close at 4:30pm during weekends.
They are generally closed on public holidays, although they may open for recreational use depending on demand.
Ms Chakanetsa said the winter closure period is used for essential maintenance to ensure the facilities remain safe and functional.
She also said the City is seeking additional partnerships to improve the condition of the pools.
“We are still looking for partnerships to help us improve and upgrade the facilities,” she said.
The City is currently partnering with Harare Amateur Swimming and Triathlon Zimbabwe.
