All is set for Harare Mayor’s Taekwondo Challenge Cup tournament where regional and local karatekas are expected to participate.
Harare City Martial Arts Club has announced that the Harare Mayor’s Taekwondo Challenge Cup 2026 edition will take place at the City Sports Centre in Harare from 15 to 16 August.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, chairman of the Harare City Martial Arts Club, Mr Martin Chimombe, highlighted the virtues of martial arts in instilling discipline and a formidable spirit particularly among the youth.
The President of the Zimbabwe Taekwondo Association, Mr Benson Mutongi Zwizwai, hailed the City of Harare’s thrust on sports as an economic driver in sync with national programmes.
Mr Zwizwai urged the youth to carry the torch forward in preserving Taekwondo and encouraged other cities across Zimbabwe to emulate Harare’s commitment to sports development.
Harare’s Sports and Arts Committee Chairperson Cllr Stanley Manyenga who was away on other business sent his blessings for the planned tournament in absentia.
The tournament featuring local and regional karatekas will start with a weighing in process for the competing athletes followed by a plenary session for referees on the 15th of August.
Competitions will kick off on the 16th of August with free entry for spectators.
The City of Harare also successfully hosted the first ever World Karate-1 Youth Tournament on the African continent earlier this year.
