Zimbabwe Cricket has named a 15-man squad for the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh, with the hosts looking to build on the confidence of their historic Test victory when the teams meet at Harare Sports Club on 6, 9 and 11 July.

Fresh from scoring a maiden Test century in Zimbabwe’s innings-and-85-run triumph over Bangladesh earlier this week, Innocent Kaia has been rewarded with selection in the ODI squad, joining fellow top-order batters Ben Curran and Brian Bennett.

The series will also usher in a new era in Zimbabwe’s ODI leadership, with Richard Ngarava set to captain the side in the format for the first time. He will draw on the experience of senior players Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza as Zimbabwe seek to carry their recent momentum into the 50-over game.

Ngarava will lead a pace attack that also features Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Ernest Masuku. The squad’s spin-bowling resources comprise all-rounders Ryan Burl and Wessly Madhevere together with left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza. For wicketkeeping duties, the selectors have retained Tadiwanashe Marumani and Clive Madande.

Zimbabwe last played ODI cricket in August last year, when they hosted Sri Lanka for a two-match series at Harare Sports Club.
