HARARE — Zimbabwe is preparing to say goodbye to Linda Masarira, the fearless women’s rights activist and politician, with her burial set for tomorrow at Glenforest Memorial Park. She leaves behind five children and a legacy of speaking boldly for the vulnerable.
A chapel service held today at Nyaradzo Funeral Service in Harare drew mourners from across the political spectrum, in a rare moment of unity. Prominent figures including Lovemore Madhuku, Douglas Mwonzora, and Masarira’s close friend Dr Abigale Mupambi sat alongside leaders from different parties to honour her life and work.
Masarira was known for her unflinching advocacy for women and for confronting injustice no matter the cost. Speakers at the service recalled her courage, her compassion, and her refusal to stay silent when others did.
“She didn’t belong to one party, she belonged to the people,” one mourner said. “Her children have lost a mother, and Zimbabwe has lost a voice that refused to be quiet.”
The service ended with tributes to Masarira’s commitment to social justice and calls for leaders to carry forward her spirit of speaking truth to power.
Burial is scheduled for tomorrow at Glenforest.
