GWANDA— A 74-year-old Kezi man will spend the next 15 years in prison after the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court convicted him of raping his 34-year-old daughter, who is mentally incompetent.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said the man attacked the woman in January 2026 at the family homestead in Chief Bidi area, using his wife’s absence and his daughter’s condition to commit the offence.
He was caught by his son, who returned home and shone a phone torch into the victim’s room, then alerted his sister. Police arrested the man immediately. Medical and psychiatric reports from Maphisa District Hospital were submitted as exhibits in court.
The NPAZ said it would continue to aggressively prosecute sexual violence, particularly abuse of vulnerable family members, under its #ReportRape and #EndGBV campaigns.
