The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is strengthening the professional training of its officers and members to improve their capacity to combat crime, with a new Diploma in Financial Investigations aimed at enhancing expertise in tackling complex financial crimes.
Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba officiated at the launch of the Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO)-certified Diploma in Financial Investigations at the ZRP Staff College.
The programme brings together officers and personnel from the ZRP, Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) and the President’s Department to promote inter-agency collaboration in investigating financial crimes.
Mutamba said the initiative was part of the police force’s efforts to equip law enforcement personnel with the specialised knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to evolving criminal activities.
He said strengthening professional training was critical in improving investigative capacity and ensuring that officers were better prepared to deal with sophisticated financial crimes.
The Commissioner-General emphasised the importance of cooperation among law enforcement and investigative institutions, noting that coordinated efforts were essential in addressing crimes that often cut across institutional mandates.
The introduction of the diploma is expected to enhance skills in financial investigations, strengthen the detection of illicit financial activities and improve the quality of investigations supporting successful prosecutions.
The participation of officers from multiple institutions also provides an opportunity to share expertise, harmonise investigative approaches and strengthen the country’s response to corruption and other financial offences.
The initiative underscores the ZRP’s continued focus on professional development and specialised training as part of broader efforts to improve crime prevention, detection and law enforcement across Zimbabwe.
