The graduates comprised 467 inmates and 14 officers, with 76 graduating at Shurugwi Female Prison, 267 at Whawha Medium Prison and 138 at Whawha Young Offenders Prison.

To qualify, participants attended eight classes covering the Foundation School curriculum before writing a test to assess their understanding of the teachings.

Addressing graduates at Whawha Medium Prison, Chief Correctional Officer Alfred Sibalo described the graduation of 267 participants as historic.
“This graduation is proof that rehabilitation works. Education has no walls,” he said.

Zonal Pastor for Southern Africa Zone 5, Pastor Dr Ruth Musarurwa, urged the graduates to apply the biblical principles they had learnt during their studies.
Drawing from 1 Corinthians 9:24–27, she emphasised discipline, perseverance and commitment to the Christian faith.
She encouraged the graduates to remain steadfast, saying, “Winners don’t quit and quitters don’t win.”
