HARARE – Veteran Zimbabwean musician Giant Tagarisa is using his music as a powerful tool to combat early child marriages and substance abuse, aligning with government efforts to eradicate these social evils.

With a career spanning over three decades, Tagarisa has released over 50 singles, tackling socio-cultural and economic issues affecting society. His latest tracks, “Achiri Pwere” and “Jonso Siya Guka,” condemn those exploiting young girls and boys and warn against drug abuse, respectively.

“Music is an agent of socio-cultural and economic change,” Tagarisa said. “It speaks to audiences about their daily encounters and evokes memories, influencing positive outcomes.”

Tagarisa’s music has gained significant traction, with thousands of views on social media platforms. Producer Maselo PaBeat attributes this to the artist’s impactful lyrics and collaborations with notable musicians like Pah Chihera and Andy Muridzo.

“His work has impacted various demographics, resonating with context,” Maselo said.

Tagarisa’s stance against early child marriages and substance abuse stems from his church background and 1986 music career start. He’s part of a broader movement, with artists like Minister Michael Mahendere and Alick Macheso using music to raise awareness against social ills.
