Muzarabani – In a remarkable display of community-driven development, Muzarabani Rural District Council is leading the charge in transforming Ward 11, with Councillor Catherine Mahachi at the helm. The council’s innovative 40% levies plough-back initiative has yielded tangible results, with significant improvements in local infrastructure and social services.
“Our community is thriving, thanks to the collective efforts of the council, government, and the people,” said Councillor Mahachi.
“We’re committed to ensuring that our resources benefit our community, and this initiative is a testament to that commitment,”she added.
The rehabilitation of a critical road, ravaged by seasonal rains, is a standout example of the initiative’s impact. The council’s investment of 40% of collected levies has restored vital connectivity, facilitating the movement of goods, services, and people.
Beyond infrastructure, the community is buzzing with projects aimed at improving education and living standards.Member of Paliament and also Deputy Minister Local Government and Pubic Works Engineer Honourable Benjamin Kabikira has lent his support, constructing classroom blocks at a local school through his company.
The community has also rallied behind the effort, volunteering labour to dig school foundations and construct toilets.
“This is what community spirit looks like,” said Councillor Mahachi. “Our people are invested in their future, and we’re working hand-in-hand with government and stakeholders to make President Dr Emerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 a reality.”
ZANU PF cell members have been instrumental in mobilizing support for these initiatives, echoing the President’s call for community-led development. As one local resident noted, “We’re not just building schools; we’re building a brighter future for our children.”
The Muzarabani model serves as a beacon of hope for rural communities nationwide, demonstrating that with determination, resources, and collective effort, even the most challenging development goals can be achieved. As Councillor Mahachi aptly put it, “Kubatanirana ndiko kwakabva ndichira” – unity is strength.
The community’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with neighboring districts and organizations expressing interest in replicating the model. For Muzarabani, the future looks brighter than ever, with community-led initiatives paving the way for sustainable growth and prosperity.
