National Chairperson for Allied Tobacco Farmers for Economic Development, Jesina Mangwiro said they are appealing for land to be availed to the youths so that they uplift tobacco farming in the country.
Speaking to The Blast during a tobacco farming field day event held at Patrick Chadzelakuka’s homestead, Tengwe in Hurungwe East last week, Mangwiro said:
“We are appealing to government to avail land for youths so that they fully embark into tobacco farming. If you take a look at this farmer (Chadzelakuka) is a young and successful farmer at just 42.Other youths can also emulate him and also be successful tobacco farmers.
“The youths can be successful tobacco farmers with the support of our partners Agritex, TRB, TIMB and other stakeholders. We are therefore appealing to government to set aside land for youths to venture into tobacco farming. If the youths are occupied, they stay away from drug and substance abuse.”
