SADC Executive Secretary, H.E Elias M. Magosi today (3 February) held a high-level consultative meeting with Ms. Boitumelo Mosako, Chief Executive Officer of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), and her delegation.

The meeting took place at the SADC Secretariat HQ in Gaborone, Botswana.

Ms. Mosako, who assumed office as DBSA CEO in April 2023, made history as the first woman to lead the Bank, succeeding Mr. Patrick Dlamini. Prior to her appointment, she served as DBSA’s Chief Financial Officer, bringing extensive experience in development finance and institutional leadership.

Established in June 1983, the DBSA is a development finance institution wholly owned by the Government of South Africa. Its mandate is to promote economic growth, regional integration, and sustainable development through financial and non-financial investments across the African continent.

The Bank’s work aligns strongly with SADC’s regional priorities, particularly in advancing integrated infrastructure development guided by the Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan (RIDMP).

DBSA’s strategic focus areas-water, energy, transport, and ICT are critical enablers for inclusive economic growth, enhanced regional connectivity, and improved quality of life for citizens across the SADC region and beyond.

In this context, the DBSA has indicated that its strategy places strong emphasis on supporting regional integration with SADC through transport corridor development, with a particular focus on rail-based infrastructure. This approach is
aligned with SADC’s regional transport strategy, which seeks to shift freight movement from road to rail to improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance
sustainability, and strengthen cross-border trade and integration.

The engagement between SADC and DBSA focused on issues of mutual interest, exploring opportunities to deepen cooperation in support of regional integration, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development. The meeting reiterated a shared commitment to leveraging partnerships that accelerate socio-economic transformation and deliver long-term development impact across Southern Africa and the wider continent.
