In the heart of Mashonaland Central, Alderman Catherine Mahachi is making waves with her tireless efforts to uplift women in agriculture through the Agric4She project.

As a dedicated councillor for Chinyanyi Ward 11 in Centenary, Mahachi has been instrumental in driving developmental initiatives that put women at the forefront of agricultural development.

Her passion for empowering women earned her the prestigious National Best Mfumvudza Farming Agric4She award in 2025 , a testament to her innovative approach to agriculture , the first woman in the country. The Mfumvudza farming method, promoted by the government, focuses on maximizing yields from small plots of land.

Mahachi credits the First Lady, Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa, for her unwavering support of the Agric4She project. “Her Excellency’s vision for women’s empowerment in agriculture has been a game-changer,” Mahachi said. “Through her initiatives, we’ve seen significant improvements in food security and income generation for women in our community.”

The Agric4She project has enabled women to access training, inputs, and markets, transforming their lives and contributing to the local economy. Mahachi’s leadership has inspired many, and her award is a reflection of her dedication to women’s empowerment.

“Women are the backbone of agriculture, and it’s time we support them,” Mahachi said. “I’m grateful for the recognition, but the real reward is seeing women thrive and become self-sufficient.”

Mahachi’s story serves as a beacon of hope for women in agriculture, demonstrating that with the right support and resources, they can achieve greatness.
