Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume
By Ishmael Kauzani, Kick for Life Coordinator
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Mayor of Harare, Cllr Jacob Mafume, for his bold and timely address on the issue of drug and substance abuse, which continues to destroy the lives of our youth and tear apart our communities.
Mayor Mafume’s clear warning to drug lords—that their time is up and that action is coming—reflects true leadership and a deep commitment to restoring sanity, safety, and public health in our beloved city. We applaud his courage and the decisive tone he has taken in tackling this growing crisis head-on.
As we rally behind his vision, let us also turn our attention to the forthcoming Mayor’s Kick for Life Tournament, scheduled for 26 September 2025 in Crowborough North. This is more than just a sporting event—it is a community-driven initiative aimed at promoting youth engagement, social inclusion, and the fight against drug and substance abuse through positive recreation. The Mayor himself will officially address the event.
We call upon all stakeholders—community leaders, youth groups, civil society, and residents—to support both the Mayor’s anti-drug campaign and this powerful sports program. Together, let us protect our future by empowering young people with purpose, discipline, and opportunity.
