Gweru businesswoman and philanthropist Ambassador Dr Smelly Dube has been listed among the Africa’s top 100 most influential people for 2025 alongside prominent figures in the continent such as Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote and Egyptian footballer, Mohamed Salah who plays for English Premier League club, Liverpool.
She will join other African achievers who will be honoured at the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa 2025 event to be held in Kigali, Rwanda on July 5.
Other Zimbabweans who will also receive allocades include Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mthuli Ncube as well as businessman and Betterbrands Group of Companies chief executive, Scott Sakupwanya.
On the entertainment side Nigerian international award winning reggae musician Burna Boy and Diamonds Platinumz will also receive awards.
According to organisers of the event 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa champions “peace, unity among African nations, drive positive change and economic growth initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, innovation, strengthen governance and education across the African continent.”
The organisation said it advocates for policy reforms and initiatives that promote good governance, transparency and accountability in Africa’s public and private sectors.
“The awards showcase and celebrate the achievements and contributions of African leaders and businesses to inspire future generations and promote a positive image of Africa globally.”
Dr Dube said she was humbled to be honoured among Africa’s great personalities.
“I really feel humbled to be recognized among Africa’s greatest achievers. I owe it to company team work as well as unwavering support from my husband, Engineer Mncedisi Dube who is chairman of our group of companies,”she said.
A philanthropist and chief executive of land developer River Valley Properties, Dr Dube has helped orphans, widows and the less privileged.
She has businesses in mining and land housing development among other sectors.
Meanwhile River Valley Properties and Dr Dube have been inducted into the National Excellence Hall of Fame.
According to the National Hall of Fame director Professor Christopher Samkange River Valley will be recognized for outstanding achievements and contributions while Dr Dube will be certified among the legendary visionaries at an event to be held in Harare at the National Art Gallery on June 28.
“Your nomination is a testament to your hard work, dedication and impact in your field,”said Professor Samkange.
“This prestigious recognition is celebrated once every 10 years honouring excellence in categories such as medicine, education, business, mining, music and art, entertainment and more.”
