Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) says the country’s major dams now hold 61.4 percent of their capacity.
In a statement,ZINWA head of corporate communications and marketing,Marjorie Munyonga said although the water level in the country’s major dams remain on the increase, the level remains lower as compared to this same time, last year.

“Water levels in the country’s major dams remain on an upward trajectory on account of the rainfall activity being experienced across the country with the national dam level average rising to 61.4% rising by 2.17% since January 6, 2025. Regardless of these positive gains the national dam level average is still lower that the 78% recorded during the same period last year,”said Munyonga.
Munyonga said as a result of the rains, some dams are now spilling.
“Due to increased inflows in the dams, some dams have now filled up and are spilling. These include Zhovhe, Lungwala, Moza, Tuli-Makwe, Masholomoshe, Silalabuhwa, Hama, Lower Zibagwe, Nyawa, Exchange and Ngwenya, among others,”she said.
She added:
” Communities downstream of these spilling dams are strongly advised to be on high alert, to avoid crossing flooded rivers and to ensure that all water abstraction equipment along river channels is removed or properly secured.”
ZINWA is advising communities to use water sparingly despite the increase in dams levels.
“ZINWA appeals to to continue using the available water sparingly and efficiently. All those drawing water from the dams for purposes other than primary purposes, including for summer crop irrigation, should ensure that their water use is in terms of water abstraction agreements in accordance with the law,” she said.
