Mosi-Oa-Tunya, the “Smoke That Thunders,” roared to life in a captivating showcase of Nature and Sustainability as Victoria Falls set the stage for a memorable engagement with the UN Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability delegation.

Led by the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Hospitality Industry Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa, alongside the UN Tourism Director of Sustainable Tourism and Resilience Dr Dirk Glaesser, the delegation  on Monday explored the iconic Victoria Falls Rainforest, drawing close to the thunderous cascade of the mighty Zambezi River.

Beyond the breathtaking scenery, the visit revealed a compelling story of stewardship where protected pathways guard against erosion, firebreaks shield the ecosystem and innovative waste management systems, including tamper-proof bins, active litter monitoring and recycling initiatives, preserve the site’s pristine condition.

This immersive experience highlighted Zimbabwe’s Whole-of-Government approach to Tourism, demonstrating that the country’s greatest natural treasures are sustained through deliberate conservation efforts, ensuring that Tourism continues to thrive in harmony with nature.

The UN Tourism Congress officially kicks off today.
