It is becoming more expensive to build in Zimbabwe, with construction costs rising amid increased demand for infrastructure and housing.
Zimbabwe has seen growth in construction, but the national statistics agency, ZimStat, says costs are going up, NewZWire (@newswireZW) wrote.
The US dollar cost of civil engineering materials, used in infrastructure projects, rose 6.7% in March, while prices in ZiG increased by an average 7.1%.
For the first quarter of 2026, prices of other building materials were up 3.7% in USD and 4.1% in ZiG compared with December 2025.
However, the cost of construction plant and machinery has remained stable on average.
The rise in prices means contractors who locked in fixed-price contracts earlier this year may be under pressure, with further increases likely due to high fuel costs.
