Harare – Alice Mutambara, Founder and National Chairperson of Zimbabwe Widows for Economic Development 4ED, is rallying widows across the country to take advantage of government initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable groups.
Speaking on the sidelines of a recent event, Mutambara emphasized the importance of mobilizing widows to access funds and opportunities. “President ED Mnangagwa’s mantra is ‘Leaving no-one and no place behind’ towards Vision 2030. He means that widows should be included in economic development. We’ve started mobilizing widows to come on board and access these opportunities,” she said.
Mutambara’s organization, which covers all 10 provinces, is working tirelessly to ensure that widows are not left behind in the country’s development agenda. “We’ve been working hard to empower widows economically, and we’re seeing positive results. We urge all widows to join us in this journey and take advantage of the opportunities available,” she added.
The government’s Vision 2030 aims to make Zimbabwe a middle-income country by 2030, and Mutambara believes that widows have a crucial role to play in achieving this goal. “Widows are a significant part of our society, and it’s essential that they’re included in our development plans. We’re committed to working with the government to ensure that they receive the support they need to thrive.”
The initiative has received support from various stakeholders, who believe that empowering widows is key to sustainable development.
