Harare residents have been urged to ‘besiege’ city council offices and express their concerns over poor service delivery.
This follows reports of deteriorating service delivery in the city.
Said Harare Residents Trust (HRT) a residents lobby group.
“Residents should find a way of gathering in their numbers at council’s district offices to ask for justifications and explanations for the collapse in service delivery.”
“Corrupt councillors and council managers do not seem to understand that they have dismally failed to serve the residents. An end to estimated billing is a very good start. These gatherings may happen on the same day across Harare. Where refuse is not being collected, residents should take the opportunity to bring their uncollected garbage and dump it at council offices. These are legitimate and overdue actions.
The time is fast approaching for a showdown beyond the boardrooms,”said HRT.
Meanwhile Glen View 7 residents are up in arms against land barons who have allocated residential stands in a wetland within their community. The illegally allocated stands owners have dug wells and have erected housing structures.
“Our lives have been affected by these land barons who are destroying our wetlands by allocating residential stands illegally.City council and Environmental Management Authority must do something,” said the residents.
No immediate response could be obtained from the relevant authorities but recently Harare City Council vowed to clamp down on illegal structures and bring sanity in the city.
