A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Chief Nyashanu following allegations that he and three accomplices used counterfeit US$100 notes to buy groceries and beer.
The suspect, Isheanesu Dzimano, was arrested on September 1 after police reportedly tracked a Toyota Fortuner linked to the group to Muzokomba.
According to police, Dzimano and his three accomplices first visited Tanyiswa Business Centre, where they allegedly bought groceries worth US$11 using a fake US$100 note and received US$89 in change.
The group allegedly struck again at Mavhungire, where they purchased beer worth US$18 using another suspected counterfeit US$100 note.
Police subsequently launched a search for the suspects and tracked their Toyota Fortuner to Muzokomba.
Dzimano was arrested, while the other three suspects reportedly fled from the vehicle.
Police recovered US$1,100 in suspected counterfeit notes, along with fake cash and vehicle registration plates.
Investigations are continuing, with police appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the three outstanding suspects.
